In 2023, Apple did something they've never done before.
They didn't release a new iPad model. That's big.
And it can only mean one thing: 2024 is gonna be packed (🤞).
Here's what we could see:
iPad 🍎
The 11th gen iPad is probably going to get a small update. Nothing crazy.
It's probably going to get a little faster ⚡️. It's probably going to get a little cheaper 🤑. And it's probably going to get cool colors 🌈.
Just your standard iPad update.
iPad Mini 👶
The iPad Mini is a cool piece of tech—I'd love to get my hands on one someday.
Sadly, any changes to the iPad Mini this year are going to be small.
The main upgrades will probably be:
A better display (to get rid of jelly scroll)
A better chip (probably the A16 chip from the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max)
A better camera
Cooler colors
Nothing super exciting to be honest.
iPad Air ☁️
The big news is that Apple could release a 12.9" iPad Air this year.
That's something I'm very, very excited for.
My iPad is starting to get a little old. I probably won't upgrade this year, but the 12.9" Air seems like an awesome option if I do.
Sadly, the larger screen seems to be it for the Air.
Apple is planning to release a new 10.9" iPad Air. However, it doesn't look like there'll be any major upgrades.
Even if nothing else changes, the 12.9" iPad Air is exciting. I've been waiting years for this.
iPad Pro 💻
The iPad Pro is in for a big change: This will be the biggest update to the iPad Pro since 2018.
Every potential feature here is huge:
OLED displays (way better than anything we've seen so far)
MagSafe (just like the Macs)
An upgraded design (not sure how they can make the current one any better)
M3 chip (faster than we've ever imagined)
I'm excited for this—the 2024 iPad is gonna be huge.
Apple Pencil ✏️
Finally.
Apple is going to announce a new Apple Pencil. A good one (not whatever we got last year).
This Apple Pencil could have:
a glossy finish (honestly not a fan)
interchangeable tips for different purposes
color sensing
lower latency
better pressure sensitivity
Magic Keyboard ⌨️
The new magic keyboard is gonna bring the iPad even closer to the Macs.
It's gonna have an aluminum frame. I'm grateful for this—the current rubbery feel is not my vibe.
The trackpad is also gonna be better.
This could be bad for the price though—the Magic Keyboard already costs over $300. Aluminum could send it even higher.
When? ⏰
The new iPad Airs and iPad Pros will probably come out in March. Apple is planning to hold an event in March to announce these products. The new Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard are also going to be announced here.
The new iPad Mini will be released later in the year. Analysts are projecting a September or October launch date.
The new base-level iPad is a bit unknown. My guess is September or October of 2024.
Final Thoughts

Concepts is a fantastic "unlimited canvas" note-taking app I've used for years (if you don't believe me, check my post history). I've used it to take notes, brainstorm article ideas, and even design a science fair project.
It's one of the few apps I highly recommend for every iPad user out there. And I genuinely believe this (again, check my post history if you wanna verify this claim).
It has an awesome free plan.
And if you want more, Concepts is offering a free 30-day trial. No credit card required.
It's "going to," not "gonna."
