iPadOS 18 Will Be A Disappointment. Here Are Four Things I'm Expecting.
I hope at least a couple of these come true 🤞
iPadOS 18 seems like a drop in the bucket.
I’m not expecting too much at WWDC this Tuesday. The rumors haven’t been promising. I can’t see anything meaningful coming out.
I really hope I’m wrong.
Here are four things I’m predicting. Only one is remotely exciting.
The Calculator App
Nothing crazy here.
Apple’s been holding off on a calculator app for a long time. Too long.
But finally, it’s coming. An app that can add 2 + 2.
🎉🥳👏🎊🙌🍾
An upgrade? Yes. Cool? Not really.
The Journal App
This one is actually kinda useful.
The Journal app came to iPhone, and I thought it seemed pretty cool.
I’ve lost my daily journaling habit. However, I still use it for occasional journal entries. And it’s pretty cool.
Some useful features:
Lockability so your little sister can’t snoop 🔐
Multimedia so you can add cool photos, videos, and audio 🎶
Reminders so you keep a strong habit (don’t be like me) 🔔
This one’s a bit cooler than a calculator app. It’s still mid.
Stage Manager
I don’t really use Stage Manager, so I can’t say much here.
All I’ve heard is that there are some improvements.
But the fact that I haven’t heard anything noteworthy points me to one conclusion: nothing cool is coming out.
Hopefully I’m wrong.
AI
Now this is the gold mine.
I see so much potential with generative AI for Apple.
They’ve been pushing AI in every conference/release for the past year-ish. They’re definitely going to do it again.
Here’s my AI wishlist:
Local LLM chat app (using LLama3 or Apple’s proprietary models)
Make Siri smarter
Make Siri more agentic
Natural language interfaces for apps like Calendar and Reminders
Maybe add a native LLM API that developers can use to bring more functionality to their apps
Final Thoughts
Nothing crazy here. Just hope there’s cooler stuff coming out that I missed.
Thanks for reading,
Adi
Concepts
Concepts is an "unlimited canvas" note-taking app I've used for years (if you don't believe me, check my post history). I use it to take notes, brainstorm article ideas, and come up with startup ideas.
It's one of the few apps I highly recommend for every iPad user out there. And I genuinely believe this (again, check my post history if you wanna verify this claim).
Concepts has been kind enough to offer a free 30-day trial. And no, you don't have to enter your credit card info.
Show Concepts some love ❤️—they're amazing sponsors.
