I'm not kidding—I actually passed out.
Trying the Vision Pro was a wild experience. I had no idea what to expect.
In the words of my roommate (with the biggest smile I've ever seen): "wow, it's actually really cool"
My Initial Thoughts 💭
Woah.
My roommate studies Cognitive Science. In particular, he's interested in human computer interaction.
He also happened to have the appointment right before mine.
As I took cool pictures of him with the Vision Pro, I could hear the awe in his voice. He was genuinely impressed.
He took them off and was in a combined state of joy and shock. He told me that he's gonna take the money he'll earn over the summer and buy one.
By the time it was my turn, I was more than ready.
It's Heavy 🏋️
I put the Vision Pro on, and the first thing I noticed is that it's pretty heavy.
For context, I'm a skinny guy and my sister likes to call my face a "really really long egg". The Vision Pro wasn't throwing me off balance, but its weight was noticeable.
Because of its weight, you have to really tighten the adjustment straps. This didn't hurt at first, but it got annoying towards the end of my demo.
The Vision Pro was also weird for my face shape. It took me a minute to get everything adjusted.
Eye Tracking 👁️
But once everything was on, it was go time.
The first thing that stood out to me was eye tracking. It genuinely shocked me.
For those who don't know, the Vision Pro doesn't have a cursor (though you can use it with a trackpad). Instead, the cursor is your eyes 👁️👁️.
I thought this would be a gimmick. I was wrong.
When you look at something, the Vision Pro highlights it. It's the coolest thing ever.
And during my demo, it worked every single time. I was impressed.
Screens, Screens, and More Screens 🖥️
As I got over the initial "woah eyeball tracking!!!" phase, the Apple Store employee guided me through the first parts of my demo.
And this is where I really saw the power of Vision Pro.
I quickly learned how to resize and move screens. It's amazing.
Imagine Stage Manager, but all around you. Freely moving windows that re-adjust to any size you want and can be moved anywhere. That's how you use windows on Vision Pro.
When you're working, this could be incredibly useful. With multiple screens, you could get so much done (this is what got my roommate so excited).
You could put screens anywhere you want to refer back to different pieces of information. For people who love multitasking, this is a very powerful tool.
Movies 🎞️
I know I've said that everything was impressive. But when I got to the entertainment part of the demo, my mind was genuinely blown 🤯.
When I was a kid, I remember 3D movies where you could pay extra and get 3D glasses to make movies "come to life". As a kid with glasses, I didn't like these. And they were mostly a gimmick.
But with the Vision Pro, watching movies actually felt 3D. As I watched the new Avatar movie, I was in shock. I had never seen a movie like that before.
And here was the best part. The Apple Store employee showed me how to open one particular video demo. And it was mind-boggling.
It was a dinosaur that came out of the screen. It looked so unbelievably real and the detail was amazing (I could see the shadows of its teeth). Half of me wanted to take my hand out and pet the dinosaur (the other half has social anxiety).
Ultimately, just wow. Entertainment on the Vision Pro is insane.
Why I Passed Out 😵
I finished 95% of the demo. And I was 100% fine.
But then the last part of the demo took place. Just a quick panoramic video.
By this point, my head had been feeling the weight of the Vision Pro for a while. While I wasn't in pain, I was ready to take it off.
As the demo started, I noticed my vision fading out. And then boom, it was gone.
I asked the employee to take it off. He probably said yes. And then my hearing was gone.
My roommate says I leaned over, and in his words, I "spazzed out".
Eventually I came back to a functioning, but clammy state. My vision came back, and my roommate helped walk me back along with a mall security guard.
I think what went wrong was over-stimulation. At least, that's what my roommate says.
The last time I passed out was due to heat exhaustion. I genuinely have no idea what happened here. But in case you have issues like this in the past, be careful.
Worth It? 💰
Probably not, but it's cool.

Concepts is an "unlimited canvas" note-taking app I've used for years (if you don't believe me, check my post history). I use it to take notes, brainstorm article ideas, and come up with startup ideas.
It's one of the few apps I highly recommend for every iPad user out there. And I genuinely believe this (again, check my post history if you wanna verify this claim).
Concepts has been kind enough to offer a free 30-day trial. And no, you don't have to enter your credit card info.
Show Concepts some love ❤️—they're amazing sponsors.
