43 days ago, I started work at my first internship.
While I do most of my programming work on my Mac, I still use my iPad to organize my work.
Here are the most important apps I've used over the past 6 weeks in my internship:
Spark
I've used Spark to send and receive emails for years.
At my internship, I use Spark to communicate with my team. Whether it's documents that need to be signed or meetings that need to be joined, Spark helps me figure out what I need to do and how I need to do it.
Overall, It's an awesome app that's simple to use. And for casual email users, it'll come at no cost.
One of my favorite features is Smart Inbox. It sorts your email into different categories. Other email services offer a similar feature, but Spark has the best implementation imo.
Spark is also really well organized—I have 10 email accounts, and Spark helps me manage all of them.
And if you're a pro user, Spark has a ton of integrations you can use. It works with Google Drive, OneDrive, Todoist, Bear, and more.
If you're looking for a cool email app, definitely check out Spark.
Todoist
Like Spark, Todoist is one of the few apps I've kept on my iPad for a loooooong time.
That's because after testing out a ton of random to-do list apps, Todoist always comes out on top.
In a sense, it's like Spark. It's free for casual users, it's simple to use, and it has some powerful features.
One of my favorite features is the ease of scheduling times. Instead of having to click through a calendar to try and schedule a task for tomorrow, you can just type "do xyz tmr". Todoist will automatically set the task to be due tomorrow.
There's a ton of ways you can use this. One thing I do is keep track of my friend's birthdays (ex: "remind me about Tim Cook's birthday every November 1").
With my internship, I use this to schedule out deadlines for any tasks I need to complete. It's a small feature, but it makes the app feel way faster.
Google Meet
I use Google Meet to meet with my team.
I don't think there's much more I can really say here.
Concepts
Concepts is an awesome note-taking app I've used for a while.
At my internship, Concepts has been a big part of my work.
At the moment, I'm using Concepts to design new features and come up with ideas to solve different problems.
Whether it's trying to understand how different pieces of software link together or figuring out what's wrong with my code, Concepts is a cool part of my software engineering process.
If you're interested in using Concepts, you can check out this free 30-day trial(no cc info required).
Apple Notes
During meetings, I like to take notes to keep track of what's going on.
Being an intern, I often have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. Taking notes helps me learn way more about what's going on.
It's also important if my team ever discusses my code. I use Apple Notes to keep track of different changes I need to make or suggestions I should keep in mind.
GitHub
While I mainly use GitHub on my Mac, I sometimes use it on my iPad as well.
For non-coding people, GitHub helps you keep track of changes in your code, as well as a bunch of other things.
In my internship, I use GitHub to track the approval of different changes I've written. I also use GitHub to research different problems whenever I hit an error.
