I’ve used Safari for almost a decade (crazy to think).
Arc is the one browser that might take me away.
Here’s why it’s awesome.
Gen AI + Google 🤖
This is by far my favorite feature of Arc.
As was seen in my previous post, AI tools like Perplexity are prone to hallucination. Though it’s helpful for some tasks, for others I just want plain old Google Search.
That’s what makes Arc really cool.
With just the tap of a button, you can switch between a generative AI search mode (similar to Perplexity) to your standard Google search engine.
AI Summary 📜
Instead of being packed with useless AI features, I actually like the way Arc is working with generated content.
On top of Perplexity-esque search, it also offers AI summaries. While it’s nothing new, I’ve personally experienced better results with Arc compared to other platforms.
Built-In Blockers 🛑
Having a built-in ad/cookie/tracker blocker is also pretty nice.
In the United States, I’ve seen websites pestered with election ads. Arc’s approach is a nice diversion from constant political polarization.
The UI 😎
The UI is also very enjoyable to use (looking at you, Bing).
It’s a fresh, usable interface in contrast to more traditional browsers like Bing, Safari, or Chrome.
Hands-Free Search 🎤
Hands-free voice search is also nice. I don’t use it too much, but it’s nice to have.
Customizability 🛠️
Arc also has a suite of cool customization features.
For instance, users can:
Automatically translate websites to/from whatever language you desire
Automatically delete inactive tabs after a certain date
Customize the app icon to match your Home Page
and more
Final Thoughts
Honestly, Arc isn’t anything crazy. It’s really re-packaging a bunch of browser features that already exist.
That said, the execution is awesome. I especially love the UI.
I’ll try using it for a few weeks to see how it works. I’ve used Safari since forever and it’ll be nice to have a new browser for once.
Thanks for reading!
