Folding phones are like AI agents.
Sound super cool. In reality, they’re ok.
Here’s what we can expect for Apple’s foldable phone.
Timeline 🕰️
People think 2026. I think Apple will take longer.
Screen 📺
Looks like they’re going for the hot dog rather than the flip phone.
Rumors say 5.5” when closed (iPhone 12/13 Minis-ish) and 7.8” when open (iPad Mini-ish).
Hinge 🚪
Leaks say that Apple plans to use a liquid metal hinge. I don’t think so–doesn’t seem like Apple’s move.
I do agree though that Apple will do whatever it takes to get rid of the crease seen in other foldable phones. Their relentless focus on design guarantees it.
Touch ID 👆
Touch ID appears to be Apple’s choice. Primarily because the face ID module may not be able to fit inside of the folding phone.
If it saves space + reduces cost, Touch ID >>> Face ID.
Price 💸
Rumor mills expect the starting price to lie around the $2000-$2500 mark. My guess is towards the higher end of that bracket.
Final Thoughts
Foldable phones are cool, but I think they’re overhyped.
Look at Samsung’s folding phones-can’t think of a single person I know who uses them. Apple might do a better job though.
