When someone uses an iPad, there are three things they’re doing:
working
playing
wasting time
Apple Intelligence, in my eyes, is designed to solve to minimize the third issue.
Don’t want to listen to a full lecture? Have your iPad summarize it.
Don’t want to spend time responding to an annoying text? Craft a response with a couple taps.
I’m so excited that I’m spending my Saturday morning writing about AI.
The Best Features We’re Getting
My favorite features are the ones that will genuinely help people spend more time on the things they care about.
Siri on Steroids
Can’t wait for this.
Siri, thus far, has been a disappointment. Alexa is 10x smarter.
But with the latest gen AI tech, you get a cutting-edge experience. Combine this with context about your device, and you get a genuinely powerful AI assistant.
Combined with Shortcuts integrations, this could be insane. A genuine time-saver.
Summaries
I also think summaries are going to be huge.
Summarizing things is probably my #2 use case for ChatGPT (#1 is helping me fix my code).
What I especially love is the audio-to-text summarization via the Record button in the Notes app. I think this could be especially helpful for college students who get bored during lectures (like me).
Writing Tools
My #3 use case for ChatGPT is probably revising my writings.
Writing Tools is like Grammarly but free. And 10x better.
Change the tone, style, and grammar of your writing. All with a tap.
Smart Reply
I didn’t see this before.
This is killer.
Ever get a text that you don’t wanna respond to?
Not because it’s tough to. You just don’t have the energy.
Enter Smart Reply. Tap a couple of buttons to confirm the gist of your response, and Apple Intelligence does the rest.
Context
This is where Apple Intelligence will stand out from the crowd.
With On-Screen Awareness and Personal Context, Siri will be able to understand so much more.
I predict that this might be gimmicky at first, but I hope Apple can iron everything out by September.
Execution
It’ll probably be gimmicky at first.
Stage Manager was too.
But Apple Intelligence has the potential to be better.
They shifted resources from self-driving cars to gen AI. They’ve been on the hunt for top AI talent across the country (and the world).
This is big to them. Especially since Apple Intelligence will also be on iOS and MacOS.
Even if it isn’t great at first, Apple has the resources to rapidly improve it.
The Future
In the future, I hope Apple Intelligence leads to more time-cutting projects.
One cool idea I’ve been thinking about is AI-generated responses to voicemails.
Apple already generates transcripts of your voicemails. Wouldn’t it be cool if it reads the transcripts and generates a reply you can send with a top of a button?
Let me know if you have any other futuristic ideas in the comments below.
Final Thoughts
I’m excited for Apple Intelligence. You should be too.
Thanks for reading!
Adi
Concepts
Concepts is an "unlimited canvas" note-taking app I've used for years (if you don't believe me, check my post history). I use it to take notes, brainstorm article ideas, and come up with startup ideas.
It's one of the few apps I highly recommend for every iPad user out there. And I genuinely believe this (again, check my post history if you wanna verify this claim).
Concepts has been kind enough to offer a free 30-day trial. And no, you don't have to enter your credit card info.
Hey Adi,
Thanks for these helpful suggestions! Hope to implement them ASAP
