Apple Notes has been on the comeback for years. After being objectively one of the most useless apps on the iPad, it’s turned into a genuine tool.
Here are 7 tricks to make the most of Apple Notes:
🤝 Sharing
To share a note, tap the share button (square with an arrow pointing up)
Choose where you want to share the note or who you want to share it with.
You also have the option to edit the share settings if you want.
If there’s an orange dot to the left of the title of a note, someone has changed the note since the last time you looked at it. Open the note and swipe right to view editing history.
🤏 Collapsible Sections
This is Notion-esque. And I love it.
Click “Aa” to open formatting options. Click something big (like Title or Heading).
Once it is in your notes, you will see a chevron symbol when you hover over the text. Click this to toggle visibility of individual sections.
📄 PDFs
Apple Notes has been big on PDFs lately.
Now, you can view full-width PDFs and document scans. This is 10x better for interacting with your documents.
Annotating documents is as easy as liking this post.
📁 Folders
I love organization. Especially folders.
Thank god Apple Notes has folders now. Users can create up to 5 levels of sub-folders. That is better than 90% of note-taking apps out there.
To create a sub-folder, tap the more button inside an existing folder and tap add folder.
🔖 Tags
Use tags to organize your notes by typing or writing #TagName.
This is great for keeping related notes together. You can search for notes that contain a specific tag (or a combination of multiple tags).
🔗 Link Notes
One more organization thing.
Link your notes together by typing “>>” to reference another note.
This is great for 1-to-1 note relationships. For greater needs, tags or folders are probably better.
💨 Quick Notes
Quick Notes is my favorite feature.
To open a Quick note, swipe diagonally from the bottom right corner (↘️).
Like other notes, Quick Notes can be typed or handwritten.
To view them, go to the Notes app and tap on the “Quick Notes” folder.
Final Thoughts
Apple Nows is beautifully simple yet powerful for the average user. There are so many other features I couldn’t cover today. Be sure to check out the app sometime this week.

Check out Concepts, the sponsor of this post. Love their product and have been using it for almost 5 years. They’ve been kind enough to offer you a free 30-day trial. And no, you don't have to enter your credit card info.
My ONLY tool. It is my note taking app. I got past the caviat of not being able to zoom in and now I write all my sixth form notes in them. One thing about the app is that the level of organisation is amazing. Folders under folders under folders. The writing experience is very satisfying with the new writing handwriting features and maths notes is actually alright. One downfall of notes tho is that once a note gets too large, it will start to lag, a lot. But its not a dealbreaker. Its definitely a really good app.
Great job again (as always) Aditya!
