5 Powerful iPad Apps I Used as a Creator in 2022
The apps that changed the way I created content this year
2022 was an interesting year for creators.
TikTok continued its dominance, but rivals in the form of YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels arose. We saw the rise of new platforms (BeReal) and potentially the beginning of the end for old platforms (Twitter).
Here are 5 powerful iPads apps I used as a writer (and semi-TikToker) in 2022:
Todoist
Todoist has been a game-changer for me this year.
After going through multiple to-do list apps, Todoist has become my favorite. It's become a "trash can" of productivity: it's where I dump any task I need to do. From a creator's perspective, it helps me organize my work and set aside time for creative projects.
2022 was a busy year for me—Todoist was a key part in navigating the different challenges I faced.
GoodNotes
Brainstorming is crucial for every creator—having the ability to think deeply is a powerful tool for coming up with brilliant ideas.
In a sense, GoodNotes is like a pull-up bar. While you don't need a pull-up bar to become the next Captain America, it helps you get stronger.
You don't need GoodNotes to enter a state of deep thought, but it can help you organize your thoughts more effectively and efficiently.
One Sec
99.99% of humans on this planet are prone to distraction (the other 0.01% are robots in disguise).
You're probably familiar with this situation: you have work to do, but every ounce of motivation has left your body. Instead of finishing your work, you open up Netflix.
One sec can help address this issue: anytime you open up an addictive app of your choice, you're redirected to a breathing prompt. After a few seconds, you get to choose whether or not you want to proceed to the app.
You can read more about one sec here.
Procreate
Some of my posts are boring. Like really boring.
Usually, I can make them more engaging by adding good images. The problem comes when you're forced to use overused images from Unsplash.
I want my articles to be fun to read. In newsletters I consume, I like hand-drawn diagrams/sketches. I've added Procreate drawings in my posts a few times before, and I hope to go further with drawings in 2023.
Premiere Rush
In addition to writing posts on Medium (my main non-Substack source of subscribers), I've explored other platforms to bring subscribers to my newsletter.
As a busy student, I don't have the time to start a full-blown YouTube channel on top of the blog. Instead, I'm creating videos on YouTube Shorts and TikTok.
I'm not too well-versed with iPad video editing apps, though I've used Premiere Rush for years as an alternative to iMovie (which I find too basic for my needs). It may not the best app, but it gets the job done.
